AJ Courtenay, The Countess of Devon
All artists will receive a 1:1 session with AJ– the founder of Powderham Live! AJ specialises in performance grounding and connection; with yourself, your resonance, your music, and your audience. She will be asking if there anything the artists wants to focus on in their sessions and will help them build and strengthen their vocal resonance and stage presence as well as guide and support them through the program.
Kevin Ward
Kevin is probably the one person, apart from AJ of course, who can be thanked for the Powderham Live! program becoming a reality! Kevin was with AJ when she voiced a vision of bringing the music of young people to the castle and it was he who said the words "I could probably help you make that happen?" That was it - the start of Powderham Live! Kevin unwaveringly supports AJ in her vision over the years, working closely with all the artists and their families in communicating the program out to all.
Robin Brown
Robin Brown of The Cave Music Project has many years’ experience as a musician and producer and works with all the artists in face-to-face workshops held at Powderham Castle. While Covid restrictions are in place however, he has facilitated an alternative and offers the chance for artists to record their music at Unit 3 Studios in Dawlish, in a Covid safe environment. Robin will record their music with quality equipment in this comfortable well-equipped rehearsal/recording studio and will master the recordings and send them on for the artists to keep/share or release.
Emma Twamley
Emma is the Director of award winning Glas-Denbury Music and Arts Festival and a freelance Social Media specialist. She is currently project managing Powderham Live! and manages the social media for the program. Emma brings her wealth of experience to the program; she created Glas-Denbury Music and Arts Festival, directing and programming it each year. In her workshops, she shares secrets of what bookers and promoters are looking for when applying to play at festivals and events and how to grab their attention. Emma has also been a manager and promoter of entertainers and music artists for over 20 years and can support Powderham Live! artists in building and sharing their online presence as a music artist throughout the program as well as facilitating them in networking within the music and media industry in the South West.
Ben Malley
Ben is a Music Producer, Composer, Sound Engineer and a Production Manager at Glas-Denbury Music and Arts Festival. As a mentor he will share his technical and compositional skills covering recording and mixing your own music at home, creative music production techniques to make use of the sounds around you in your music, composition techniques, the different careers and paths you can take in the music industry and any technical queries or tips you may need.
Pik Rawlings & Emily Appleton
Pik Rawlings of Mama Pik Music and Emily Appleton – photographer and videographer, provide top tips, advice, and signposting with opportunities to share ideas and create personal plans to getting seen and heard on the local music scene. Key aspects will include creating a brand, how to be the best that you can be, professionalism, contacts, and supportive relationships with the power of being kind and social media.
Hannah Wood
One half of Exeter based Sound of the Sirens and a Vocal coach at Vocal Arts, Hannah offers vocal coaching workshops for all the artists. Whether a beginner or an experienced singer, perhaps looking to improve on their technique, increase their range or build their confidence. The primary aim is for her to help artists enjoy singing and she will help them explore the techniques to help them gain the skills and confidence to use their voice to its best ability. Perhaps they have specific issues that they wish to address, such as tone, tuning, diction, pronunciation etc? She can help them overcome these issues, helping them improve their confidence and performance.
Sadie Horler
Sadie Horler is a musician and offers lyrical writing workshops enabling artists to think more openly about lyric writing and will help them use their own feelings and experiences to write lyrics that will resonate with listeners and add a new depth to their music. Working independently or in small groups, they will learn how to develop their song ideas, so that they create an interesting journey from start to finish. She will be looking at lots of ways to inspire their creativity and overcome the dreaded writer's block.
Joanna Walling
Joanna Walling from JJ Arts Academy is a Music teacher and Performance Coach. Joanna’s workshops are an opportunity to explore how to tell the artist’s story and communicate it fully with their listeners. She is also a European Vocal and Keyboard Yamaha Instructor, an RSL examiner as well as being a front singer for function bands, Joanna will help them tell their story so that the audience remembers them!
Andrew Clayton
Andrew is a skilled drumming teacher and offers 1:1 drumming workshops designed to fit individual needs and requirements, with an overall emphasis on enjoyment and the development of confidence and well-rounded musicianship.
